Y2K In the Great Outdoors

Jaylen’s Y2K Portrait - The Outdoor Portrait
Spring 2024 Semester | Senior Year
Assignment: Using one or more strobe heads, make a COLOR portrait outdoors that significantly features the sky and where wardrobe adds to the photograph. Street clothes do not tell a story, so find interesting clothing that either communicates who your subject truly is, fits a cohesive aesthetic/conceptual theme or reflects a fictional character that your subject is portraying.

  • These must be COLOR images

  • Expose for the sky. It is fine to underexpose, as long as you get good tone (not a black sky). DO NOT OVEREXPOSE THE SKY. Magic hour, sunrise/sunset and dusk/dawn are great skies to work with.

  • Either a self portrait or someone else as a subject

  • Shoot in Raw. DON’T OVER PROCESS IN POST!

The Environmental Portrait - Preston

Preston’s Portrait - The Environmental Portrait

Spring 2024 Semester | Senior Year

Assignment : Construct a meaningful portrait that utilizes environment to further the viewer's understanding of the subject.

Utilize at least one strobe head with a modifier, take a series of environmental portraits of someone else. The space where you place your subject should work in conjunction with the story you are attempting to tell about the sitter. The use of available (ambient) light will play an important part in successfully highlighting the space.
