In my sophomore year at Webster University, I took a course called Design Play. In this course, we practiced prioritizing the process of creating and focused on each step weekly. Instead of focusing on the end goal of our projects, we ended up getting lost in making refinements and utilizing critique to our advantage. This course was valuable in teaching students how to appreciate each intentional decision made in creation.
In my junior year, I took a course that discussed how to organize information efficiently, aesthetically, and in a user-friendly way. In this course we designed a “Pop-Chart,” a visual graphic design that combines pop culture and visual data. We were required to design each icon of our Pop-Chart with shapes and Adobe’s Pen tool.
